1 - From TRL to MRL: Assessing Open Source Project Market Readiness, Cédric Thomas, OW2, 10:15 - 10:40.
Abstract: This talk presents OW2's efforts, experience, vision and methodology to assess the market readiness of open source software. If ''open source software has won'' it remains that many conventional managers are not comfortable with it : rating open source market readiness can be a powerful tool to help decision makers.
This presentation will cover:
- the value chain of open source software;
- the OW2 Open-source Sofware Capability Assessment Radar (OSCAR) platform;
- the first version of OW2 OSS Market Readiness Level (MRL, derived from NASA's TRL or Technology Readiness Levels).
2 - OCCIware: Extensible and Standard-based XaaS Platform To Manage Everything in The Clouds, Marc Dutoo, Smile, 13:45 - 14:05.
Abstract:Who uses multi cloud today ? Everybody. Docker AND VMs, scaling internally AND bursting to Amazon, storing on a public cloud except for data legally required to stay within the country: different solutions for different needs, but more often than not used at the same time. Alas, this leads to a "noodle plate" architecture where a lot of "technical glue" with the various, incompatible clouds creeps in and makes it impossible to evolve.
To solve this problem, the OCCIware project builds on the Open Cloud Computing (OCCI) standard's unified, uniform architectural approach and provides a platform to manage all layers and domains of the Cloud (XaaS), with two main components: the OCCIware Studio Factory and Runtime. The talk includes a demonstration of the Docker connector and of how to use the OCCIware Cloud Designer to configure a real life, SmartCity-themed Cloud application (a Java API server on top of a MongoDB cluster)'s business, platform and infrastructure layers seamlessly on both VirtualBox and OW2's OpenStack infrastructure.
3 - CHOReVOLUTION Project to Facilitate Cross-Organization Service Integration, Cédric Thomas, OW2, 14:15 - 14:40.
Abstract:From Code to Product, the CHOReVOLUTION Studio is addressing scalable IoT/IoS applications based on choreography modelling, synthesis, adaptation, service bus, security, and cloud. It aims at integrating as much as possible existing web services to create new innovative solutions. The first applications being developed are in the Intelligent Transportation Systems and Smart Tourism domains, with benefits in terms of time-to-market, agility, dynamism and cross-organization coordination. The CHOReVOLUTION software are published under an open source licence and made publicly available through the OW2 community.
4 - Automating DevOps for Agility, Control and Consistency in a Multi-Cloud Environment, James Weir, CTO, UShareSoft, 15:15 15:40.
Abstract: Today's businesses are looking to increase IT responsiveness with agile methodologies and DevOps processes. But they must also ensure that governance and compliance are not compromised. And these conflicting requirements can be exacerbated by hybrid IT or multi-cloud environments where different infrastructures are in play for development, test, pre-prod and production environments. Despite the tools you already have in place, application deployment can quickly turn into a nightmare, manually integrating builds from scratch for each different infrastructure. And if you could automate that process? To ensure consistent, repeatable application builds from development and test, to release and deployment, no matter what the infrastructure? And ensure full software governance at the same time? Join this session to find out how you can get the velocity and agility you need from DevOps without sacrificing control and consistency.
5 - Digital Transformation & Solvency II Simulations for L&G: Optimizing, Accelerating and Migrating to the Cloud, Denis Caromel, ActiveEon, 15:45 - 16:10
Abstract:Legal & General is engaged into a very innovative Digital Transformation, which goes from the services offered to its customers to the management of its IT Applications and Infrastructure.
As part of this strategic evolution, this talk presents how L&G together with ActiveEon Software and Services was able to replace 2 schedulers (Tibco DataSynapse and IBM AlgoBatch) with ProActive Workflows & Scheduling, and migrate the Solvency application to the Azure Cloud. A key aspect has been the ability to pipeline CPU-intensive tasks with I/O intensive ones. This alone allowed for 10% overall savings in runtime and grid resources, and for the high priority risk reports to be made available to customers 3x faster than the previous solution (16 hours down to 5 hours).
6 - Shorten deployment time using proper tooling, Antoine Mottier, Bonitasoft , 16:15 - 16:40
Abstract: Deploying a web application in the cloud can be challenging. A classic scenario where you need to coordinate deployment of the application server and database, provide load balancing and then monitor it all can quickly become quite time-consuming. In this presentation we will demonstrate how the Bonitasoft development team keeps our own web application deployment under control by using solutions such as Docker, Puppet and AWS CloudFormation. We will explain what criteria drove our choices, what challenges we faced, and we'll share the architecture we built.
